Boyfriend Material

Boyfriend Material is witty and fun, laugh out loud funny and tender, and the book we all need right now for a break from this insane reality. The audiobook brought these characters to life – a MUST LISTEN!

I’m conscious this could be rather burdensome to hear, but you remain the thing I have most chosen for myself. The thing that’s most exclusively mine. The one thing that brings me the deepest joy.

Synopsis:

“To clean up his image, Luc O’Donnell has to find a nice, normal relationship…and Oliver Blackwood is as nice and normal as they come. He’s a barrister, an ethical vegetarian, and he’s never inspired a moment of scandal in his life. In other words: perfect boyfriend material. Unfortunately apart from being gay, single, and really, really in need of a date for a big event, Luc and Oliver have nothing in common. So they strike a deal to be publicity-friendly (fake) boyfriends until the dust has settled. Then they can go their separate ways and pretend it never happened.

But the thing about fake-dating is that it can feel a lot like real-dating. And that’s when you get used to someone. Start falling for them. Don’t ever want to let them go.” – Sourcebooks

“You” – I gave a thwarted sigh – “are a terrible fake boyfriend.”
“I’m building fake anticipation.”
“You’d better be fake worth it.”
“I am.”

Review:

Well that was a delight!

I couldn’t get enough of this charming fake-dating romance between two grumpy British men! I even did “fake” yoga while I listened on audiobook, just so I looked busy enough for my family to not bother me so I could keep binging this delightful story.

Oh my goodness, were they everything I needed right now.

Both Luc and Oliver have their issues (stemming from different past trauma, but both definitely have some horrible parenting), and their fake dating setup is just the push they need to open their eyes to how they each *want* to be treated in life and love.

Their witty repartee is laugh out loud funny, as are their devoted friends, and silly coworkers. This was a really fun read, and will be going on my favorites shelf.

Audiobook note: Joe Jameson narrated this, and he.is.THEBEST. I really don’t know if I would have loved the story as much if I hadn’t listened to it. He’s second only to Jim Dale in my opinion on doing the most consistent, varied voices for EACH character – and there are many. Each character voice was really thoughtfully done, and carried so much of the described personality of the person. Jameson is so very talented, I’ll definitely be looking for more audiobooks narrated by him, and that’s a first!
